1954
Founded as Nihon Kasai Tanchiki Co., Ltd., at Yamashita-cho, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo with a capitalization of 500,000 yen. The principal lines of business were registered as the development, manufacture, distribution, and installation of fire alarm equipment.
1964
Headquarters office building completed at Hatagaya, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo.
Released residential fire alarm Mamo-ru to the market.
1965
Receives first certification for ionization smoke detector manufactured in Japan.
1966
Company name revised to NITTAN Co., Ltd.
1967
Ionization smoke detector certified by Underwriters Laboratories of the U.S.
1970
Ionization smoke detector authorized by FOC (Fire Office Committee) of U.K., as the first of its kind manufactured in Japan.
1972
NITTAN (UK), LTD., established in the United Kingdom.
1984
The new Model R NF-1 Disaster Prevention System wins the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Fire and Disaster Management Agency Director-General’s Award at the JECA Fair 1984.
1988
Developed Model NF-1 multisystem, distributed, full-scale disaster prevention system.
Installation of disaster prevention system to NHK Broadcast Center.
1989
New research center built at Higashi Kibogaoka, Yokohama.
1991
Disaster prevention systems at Tokyo Central Govt. Office Bldg. 2 and Tomakomai Fantasy Dome win the Fire Defense Agency Commissioner’s Award.
1992
Otone Plant of NITTAN ELECTRONIC Co., Ltd., obtains ISO9002 certification (modified to ISO9001 in January 2004).
1993
Developed Model R disaster prevention system with automated test functions for large-scale buildings (Model RXN-6). Comprehensive testing center opened in Otone-cho, Saitama Prefecture.
High-grade disaster prevention monitoring system delivered to Integral Tower Ohbayashi wins the Fire Defense Agency Commissioner’s Award.
1994
NITTAN SYSTEM AB established in Sweden.
1995
Developed Model R disaster prevention system with automated test functions for ultra large-scale buildings (Model RXN-7).
Disaster prevention system installed at Tokyo Big Sight.
1996
Mist Water cannon fire extinguishing system delivered to Namihaya Dome wins Fire Defense Agency Commissioner’s Award.
1999
Engineering and Production Division receives ISO9001 certification.
Yokohama Plant of NITTAN ELECTRONIC Co., Ltd., obtains ISO9001 certification.
Disaster prevention system installed at Kokura Race Course wins Fire Defense Agency Commissioner’s Award.

Model 2KW-P dual optical detector wins Production Innovation Award at the U.K. Fire Industry Awards 2005.
Itami Plant of NITTAN ELECTRONIC Co., Ltd., opens.
NITTAN becomes a subsidiary of the JS Group Corporation (listed on TSE, First Section) through a share exchange on October 1.
2006
Consilium Nittan Marine Ltd. established as a joint venture with Consilium AB (Sweden).
2008
Closed type water spray (AQUAFORCE) installed at Su:k Kaihinmakuhari wins Fire and Disaster Management Agency Agency Commissioner’s Award.
Installation at JR Tokai Shin Yokohama Station building receives industry-first MIC Minister certification as specialized fire protection equipment.

Model FK-5-1-12 fire-extinguishing unit (Gerbera) delivered to Fuji Oyama Plant of Sumitomo 3M wins Fire and Disaster Management Agency Commissioner’s Award.
2010
Closed spray fire-extinguishing apparatus (AQUAFORCE) installed at Home Center Konan Toyonaka Shimae Store wins Fire and Disaster Management Agency Commissioner’s Award.
2011
Company name changed to LIXIL NITTAN Co., Ltd.
Established TAIWAN NITTAN FIRE & SAFETY Co., Ltd., in Taiwan.
Closed type water spray (AQUAFORCE) installed at Iidabashi First Tower, Yodobashi Camera Multimedia Kyoto, and Garden City Shinagawa Gotenyama, and Total operation panel installed at Hakata Station contemporaneously win Fire and Disaster Management Agency Commissioner’s Award.

April 1 The business group becomes a subsidiary of SECOM Co., Ltd., upon stock ownership transfer, and the company name changes to Nittan Co., Ltd.

Since founded in 1954, we, Nittan Co., Ltd., have embraced the above corporate philosophy as our mission and strived every day for its practice and realization.
The future we aim through the practice of our corporate philosophy is “to free the society from the uncertainty of disaster.” Disaster refers not just to fire alone but also includes earthquakes, tsunami, torrential downpours, and other natural disasters. The current global pandemic could also be described as a type of disaster. Besides, the aging of Japanese society and depopulation due to low birth rates have led to an increase in the number of people who are vulnerable to disasters. As a result, there is a pressing need to maintain and improve economic activity.
For ground support of such social threats, issues, and economics, what could we, and should we, contribute as a manufacturer of safety and security equipment?
The answer is expressed in our desire to remain as a company that continues growing and evolving to achieve an ideal society in our aimed future. At the same time, keep the rigorous practice of Nittan’s unchangeable corporate philosophy.
